gatekeeperj: New here

Hello everyone.  I'm new here.  I've been awakened for 10 years as far as my otherkinness goes.  I'm a psi vamp in this life though in my first life I was also a griffin/elf.  Don't ask how the two got together...it's a long story.

I moved to NY from CA back in July.  I just found this community and thought I would give it a try.  Most of the other groups I've found were inactive at best...and full of spam at worst.

I feel very alone out here.  In San Diego I knew where to go to meet those who were metaphysically inclined (in a manner of speaking anyway).  I was a moderator to a vampire yahoo group and was owner of an otherkin yahoo group.  Both of which got together on a regular basis.  I knew the places to go where those like me would frequent.  I was spoiled when it came to meeting others.  Now I'm stuck knowing no one.

I guess what I'm asking is if there are any gatherings, meetups, etc on Long Island?  I would love to get together with others if at all possible...

Barack Obama represents real change we can believe in. Join us as we build the movement in New Hampshire and put Barack Obama on the path to the Presidency.

Many people on the left and right are counting on independent-minded voters in New Hampshire -- young voters, first-time voters, disillusioned voters, voters tired of an unending, unaccountable conflict in Iraq, tired of sacrificing their rights and freedoms, tired of politics as usual -- *NOT* to vote, because he believes that as long as enough people *DON"T* show up to vote, Hillary Clinton could win.

This is a close race, and the people of New Hampshire's participation on primary election night could make all the difference.

Independent/Undeclared voters participating in the Democratic primary:
You are eligible to vote & After voting in you may switch your registration back to Undeclared by signing the form provided at each polling location.

If you are not Registered, you can do so at your polling place on Primary Day

* In order to register, it is recommended that you bring a passport, birth certificate or naturalization papers AND either a New Hampshire driver's license, current utility bill or current phone bill.
* If you do not have these documents, you may still register by signing an affidavit at your polling location.

NEED A FREE RIDE TO YOUR POLLING PLACE? Please call 603-668-2008 for information about your polling place, voting hours or if you need a FREE ride to the polls.

houseava3: Otherkin/Therian/Vampirism Research Study Update - 01.03.08

VEWRS & AVEWRS Surveys - An Update 01.03.08:

Our next major release of statistical analysis regarding the VEWRS & AVEWRS will be at the TWILIGHT II Gathering in Atlanta, GA on March 7-9, 2008.  You are invited to attend this event by signing up at: http://vampires.meetup.com/914  We’re glad that several from the Otherkin Community were able to join us at TWILIGHT I in Los Angeles, CA in October 2007!  For the first time with these new upcoming charts and commentary we’ll be dividing the data pools by the following classification method:

V:ampire; V - VE - VO - VT - VEO - VET - VOT - VEOT
E:nergy Worker; E - EO - ET - EOT
O:therkin; O - OT
T:herian; T
* N/A

As many of you are already aware the VEWRS & AVEWRS (Vampirism & Energy Work Research Study) w/secondary focus on Otherkin and Therianthropy (http://www.suscitatio.com) far exceeded our expectations for return rates with over 650+ for the VEWRS and 330+ for the AVEWRS received by the October 31, 2007 deadline.  That equates to over 450,000 individually answered questions!  During the next few months we will be continuing to enter data into SPSS (a statistical analysis program) and working with a variety of individuals from both the community and academia on analysis and correlation of the data we've received.  In addition, this study has captured the attention of many in the media, academic institutions, and even the paranormal community.  While the official deadline has passed, we are asking for your help with a smaller internal and grass-roots effort to directly reach those you personally know within the community (active or inactive) who may have overlooked or failed to complete and return either or both surveys (we will not reject surveys that are still e-mailed to us). We can post on message boards, forums, LJ, Yahoo Groups, MSN, IRC chat rooms, and other areas but we are realistically unable to cover every possible square inch of the internet or global offline community.

This is why we need your help!

VEWRS & AVEWRS May Be Downloaded From: http://www.suscitatio.com
Completed Surveys May Be E-Mailed To:  response@suscitatio.com
Troubleshooting:  See red box section of web site on instructions on how to complete the "text-only" versions of these surveys

We sincerely thank you for you help with contributing to the success of this study and for your encouragement of others you know to complete and e-mail back these important surveys!

zashine: Visiting from Canada!

Hello all!

I just joined, because I'm going to be in New York City around the end of February. I'm from Toronto, Ontario, in Canada, and looking to meet some people and have as much fun as I can cram into my 3 day stay in the city. I have a lot of ideas as to what I'd like to do, but mostly I like meeting people, exploring new places and finding unexpected surprises.

Since this is an otherkin community, I ought to tell a bit about myself. I'm elven, been aware of my 'kinness for around 4 years; maybe a bit longer, can't quite remember how long it's been. I'm not a practising pagan at the moment, but I was for awhile starting before I discovered otherkin. For now I'm on an indefinite hiatus from magick as of 2 years ago. I had felt that the path I was on then wasn't the right one, the hiatus was to give myself time away from the pagan community and to focus on other things. My interest in magick has never diminished in all these years and I don't expect it to. :) Been studying Shamanism for a year now.

If anyone knows any good hangouts, gothic/alternative clothing stores, industrial nightclubs, concerts going on from Feb 26 - 28, whatever... lemme know! I want to hear all about it!

Oh, and if there are any gathers sometime this month I'd love to attend, if not, we could make one instead?

charliegrrrl: Two readings for She's Such A Geek in NYC next week

It's the long-awaited New York book tour for the newly-published anthology "She's Such a Geek," a collection of first-person stories by geeky women. New York Times Technology reporter Katie Hafner called the book "exhilerating, hilarious, inspiring and infuriating." Ladies Home Journal listed it in "Books We Love" for December 2006.

If a Meetup group for Otherkin started in Lower Manhattan or the Parkslope-ish part of Brooklyn, would you be interested?

kinfo: Final Information Gathering

Good afternoon or what have you.

It has been a while since I have posted here though I have enjoyed reading the various thoughtful and interesting posts that have been offered since.

First of all, thank you all for the responses I have received to date. I have spent months compiling and working through the information collected from my last surveys numbering nearly 400 responses. The amount of assistance has been overwhelming and I am incredibly happy to see such a high level of support.

I also apologize for the level of crossposting but I do wish to get as many of the livejournal communities as I may for there are individuals who belong to only one or another but do not have huge mass membership.

Following is the last survey that I will need for my work. The questions are slightly broader in scope and several will require some thought. There is reason behind each and every one. I have spent the last month and a bit fine tuning the survey and adding questions after conferring with a number of very wise people (both otherkin and human).

I have had some strong interest in the book from several publishers and I am currently looking into which will offer the best price to the buyer as well as the widest possible distribution.

You may answer the survey here OR you may email it directly to kinresearch@gmail.com if you wish to keep your answers private. Information is not shared beyond the core research unless you answer the "bonus" question.

mikeprime: Question on something..

I recently formed a Long Island based otherkin group on yahoo, and was wondering if I could post the information here, for any who want it. It's not Long Islander's only...just a response to the lack of community and events in my area.
